The UK has the leakiest housing stock in Western Europe with over 22 million leaky homes. Heat dissipates through the poorly insulated fabric of the property, leaving occupiers feeling cold and paying much more to heat their homes. This is energy inefficient.
Price rises have a disproportionate impact on lower-income households. There is concern that high energy prices are causing more than 3 million households to be in fuel poverty, where they must spend a high proportion of their income to keep their home at a reasonable temperature.
9 out 10 homes rely on gas boilers. A gas boiler emits more CO2 than any other boiler type, so it's perhaps no surprise that their removal is key to meeting the zero-carbon target of reducing emissions by 100% set by the UK government.
